IOTHANE Medical is a Palo Alto medical device company developing iodine-based wound care, starting with IothaFoam™. We were founded by a surgeon and are built by a team that has spent its careers at the bedside, in engineering and in military medicine.
Two generations of surgical invention.
Dr. Eric LeVeen spent 40+ years in general and burn surgery — and repeatedly had to choose between dressings that fight infection and dressings that let tissue heal.
He grew up in device development: his father, Harry H. LeVeen, MD, was the surgeon-inventor of the LeVeen shunt, and the two worked together on it. Their research on complexing iodine with polyurethane to make self-sterilizing materials is the foundation IothaFoam builds on.
IOTHANE Medical was formed to take that science through FDA clearance and to the wound care teams who need it.
